Wenner Promotes Brad Wieners to Editor of Men’s Journal
Jann Wenner announced October 15 that Brad Wieners, who has been executive editor at MJ since 2005, will now gain the title of editor, ranking just below the Wenner Media chairman himself, who retains the top editor title. Wieners, who has also worked at Outside, Wired, and National Geographic Adventure, has been acting editor since James Kaminsky left for Maxim in August after eight months in the position. That move followed the sale of Maxim, Blender, and the since-folded Stuff to Quadrangle Capital Partners II, which appointed former Wenner exec Kent Brownridge as CEO of the company, which is now known as Alpha Media Group.

LinkedIn Names Steve Patrizi Director of Ad Sales
Business-oriented social networking site LinkedIn has added Steve Patrizi, most recently manager of advertising sales for Microsoft’s Northern California district, as director of advertising sales. He will replace David Hahn, who will act as director for product management, reportedly developing some new advertising products.

LinkedIn, which is similar to social networking sites like MySpace and Facebook, except that it is primarily used for professional networking by business executives, allows users to build contact networks and review job offerings and manager profiles. Having experience rapid growth over recent years, the site reached profitability in March 2006, and claims more than 15 million registered users as of this month. According to his own blog on LinkedIn, Patrizi landed his job there using the networking site.

Gawker’s Alex Balk Named Executive Editor of RadarOnline
Independent magazine Radar, which has folded and relaunched twice since its original debut in 2005, has hired on Alex Balk, formerly co-editor at Gawker, as executive editor of Radar.com. He replaces Jeff Bercovici, who left to join Portfolio this year. Balk reportedly accepted a generous offer from Radar and promptly turned over the editorial reigns at Gawker to Maggie Shnayerson, who joined the blog in September to replace Doree Shafrir, recently departed for the New York Observer.

Radar, which, like Balk, is known for an irreverent, snarky style, was relaunched in print February 2007, while the online publication was up as of September 2006. Checkout our coverage of the recent Radar/Campari shindig here.

Romanow Appointed Associate Publisher of 1105 Education Group
1105 Media’s education group, which publishes T.H.E Journal and Campus Technology, among others, has announced the appointment of Ellen Romanow as associate publisher of the division. Romanow moves from her position as managing director, custom media for 1105. Previously, she ran her own company, Custom Content Solutions, and has also held management positions at CXO Media, Reed Business Information, and Ziff Davis. She now reports to Wendy La Duke, education group publisher.

CMP Appoints Harry Page President of Semiconductor Insights
Semiconductor Insights, which provides analyses of integrated circuits and electronic systems, announced October 15 that Harry Page has been named president. Page, most recently vice president of network services for Meriton Networks, will report to Paul Miller, president of the CMP electronics group. Over the course of his 25 years in the telecommunications and microelectronics industries, Page has held positions at Symagery Microsystems, Newbridge Networks, Mitel, and Bell Northern Research. He also holds several patents in the area of mobile computing image capture and processing.

Page enjoyed a personal and professional relationship with Dr. Doug Smeaton, the late president and CEO of the SI, which was bought by CMP in July of this year.
