B&N’s Magazine Push

That other Amazon, Barnes & Noble, launched an extensive online magazine store in recent weeks. Featured as part of the main nav bar, the magazine section has aggressive pricing on most titles, approaching 200 in all. One of the interesting aspects of the model is the offer to buy single digital issues of most books. You can get a single copy of about 50 titles on the spot generally for the cover price. This is an interesting way to mainstream the digital magazine format. Not only doe the B&N model aggregate available digi-mag titles (Zinio and others have done this for years) but it ties the model to a major distribution hub. This could prove to be an interesting sampling model.
