About the Webinar:

The next revolution in magazine publishing will be digitized…and portable. As all publishers eye the dozen or so e-readers entering the market and covet the sheer coolness of the Apple iPad, the question remains: How can publishers prepare their brands for a platform that bears so much hope and such a small track record? In our min Webinar, we will map this new terrain. From Kindle to Nook, iPad to Skiff, what opportunities and risks do these platforms offer magazines? How are companies re-tooling their development groups, considering new editorial and technical workflow and reimagining content for the new platforms?

Some analysts believe that e-readers will offer new revenue streams direct from consumers, but what have we learned already from the Kindle and iPhone ecosystems about what content people will and won't pay to consume? This month we bring in both industry analysts and early practitioners to help magazines position themselves for the next great unknown media adventure.

At this min Webinar, you will learn:

  • What e-readers are coming to market this year that matter most to magazine publishers
  • The business models evolving around the primary e-reader and tablet platforms
  • What content distribution on Kindle and iPhone/iPod Touch have taught us about how users want to consume content on devices
  • How content creation and workflows may need to adapt to the new devices and distribution methods
  • The kinds of usage data these device may be able to feed back to publishers, and who will own that data
  • What interactive magazine formats cutting-edge developers plan to deploy on these devices
  • How publishers plan to manage costs and resources to support a range of new formats and devices

How does the Webinar work?

The live audio is delivered to your location over the telephone or your computer speakers. The Power-Point presentations are presented over the Internet and are available to print out before the program. This is like a talk-radio program with visuals on the Web. You and your team will be able to have a live Q&A with all the speakers.
You need Adobe Flash or Windows Media Player installed on your computer. If you do not have either, please follow the instructions below to download and install them. Or if you prefer, a phone for the audio and an Internet connection to let you watch the slides and other information on the Web will suffice. No other downloads or special hardware - a dial-up connection will work fine.

  • One (1) set of materials (you may make copies for all of the persons you invited to listen to the program);
  • One (1) toll-free connection to the seminar (if you select the audio connection), and
  • One (1) Internet connection to the seminar.

Use speakers on your computer or speakerphone on your telephone and invite your entire staff to attend for one low price of $329.00 USD per site.

What equipment do I need?

For the audio connection:

  • A computer with Real Player 10, Adobe Flash Player 9 or Windows Media Player 9 installed. When you log into the webinar, your computer will be taken through a brief configuration check and will let you know if you're missing any software.
  • If you do not have Real Player, Adobe Flash Player or Windows, a touch-tone telephone will work also. It works best to use a speakerphone so that others can listen too.

For the Internet connection:

  • PC: 166Mhz Pentium-based PC or better
  • Operating system: Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows 2000, Mac OS X, Linux (Windows 98/NT/ME will most likely work but are not officially supported)
  • Browser: For optimal viewing experience, we recommend using Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher. Mac OS X must be used in combination w/ a supported Firefox browser and Adobe Flash Player. Most versions of Linux OS will work in combination w/ a supported Firefox browser and Adobe Flash Player.
  • Internet connection: 56k Dial-up Modem (minimum requirement). Some presentations will require a higher bandwidth connection such as Cable Modem or DSL.
  • Display set at 1024 x 768
