Aaron Shapiro is CEO of HUGE , a digital agency that helps companies including PepsiCo, Comcast, Yum! Brands, Target, and Unilever reimagine how they interact with their customers and manage their business in the online economy. HUGE was one of AdAge's A-List "Agencies to Watch" for 2009 and 2010, Mashable's five most innovative agencies of 2011 and OMMA's Social Agency of the Year for 2010. Shapiro built up the firm from an 8-person startup in 2005 to selling the firm to Interpublic in 2008. He subsequently grew the agency to today's global footprint of five offices and 350 employees.
Prior to HUGE, Shapiro spent more than a decade as a technology entrepreneur, venture capitalist and management consultant. This includes being founding CEO of Silverpop Systems, a leading email service provider, and starting a national magazine distributed by Time Warner.
Shapiro frequently writes about the digital economy for publications including The Huffington Post, MediaPost and Fast Company. His forthcoming business strategy book, Users Not Customers: Who Really Determines the Success of Your Business is being published by Portfolio/Penguin in October 2011. He was named one of Crain's "40 under 40" for 2011.
Shapiro received an MBA from Columbia Business School and a BA in Economics from Harvard University. He lives in New York City with his wife Carolyn and two young children. In his role, Shapiro drives internet strategy for some of HUGE's largest engagements including JetBlue, Warner Music Group, Scholastic, and Nutrisystem. Shapiro was founding CEO of Silverpop Systems, an email marketing software company ranked by Jupiter Research as the highest in overall business value among email service providers. To launch the company, Shapiro raised $30 million in venture funding. He was responsible for the overall product strategy and developed the firm’s patented technology. He has served as a marketing and technology advisor to both RiverVest Venture Partners and ARCH Venture Partners. He has been a management consultant at Booz Allen & Hamilton and was the founder of a national magazine distributed by Time Warner. Shapiro received a B.A. in Economics from Harvard University and an M.B.A. from the Columbia University Graduate School of Business.
