While Twitter has been—almost from the very beginning—a venue for users to share and comment upon media links, Facebook is still primarily the realm for social connections. Justin Osofsky, who has previously worked on helping Facebook users connect with the wide web of sites they enjoy at the click of the button through Facebook Connect, is now at the forefront of a task force building closer, mutually beneficial relationships with media brands.

Part of the initiative involves getting media companies to use tools already in place—for instance, the Like button—so that Facebook can gauge the effect of these tactics on traffic. Look for Osofsky to reach out to media brands with tools and functions that will give them more reasons to be close friends with Facebook. ●
