Presiding over a media company’s transition from print to digital can be a problematic undertaking, particularly when your company has just filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Such was the dilemma faced by Jason Young when he was named CEO of Ziff Davis in August 2007 following an earlier role as president of the company’s consumer/small business division. But with 18 years of media experience (16 at Ziff Davis), Young was ready for the challenge. He quickly led Ziff Davis out of its financial straits through a restructuring that settled long-standing debt and established a capital model to support the company’s growth. He was also able to drive revenue goals by maintaining relationships with key clients such as Microsoft and IBM; in the process, he has helped boost Ziff’s profits by 30%.
