Philippe Guelton Named Thrillist President

Philippe Guelton, who was Hachette Filipacchi Media U.S. executive VP/chief operating officer from April 2003 through the unit’s May 2011 acquisition by Hearst Magazines, moves to the seemingly much different Thrillist Media Group (TMG) with his hire yesterday (March 19) as president. HFM was largely female-targeted (Elle, Woman’s Day, etc.) with Car and Driver/Road & Track being the notable exceptions, while Thrillist reaches out to young, urban males.The flagship is the men’s lifestyle

Guelton reports to Thrillist co-founder (2005)/CEO Ben Lerer. Guelton’s boss during much of his HFM stint was 1999-2008 president Jack Kliger.

That the French-born Guelton is very U.S.-savvy (he went to college in Georgia) is seen in his hiring statement:
