Rodale Puts Anthony Astarita in Charge of DigitalTuesday, December 20, 2011 Anthony Astarita, who built Barnes & Noble's digital business "from the idea stage into a thriving, 175-person division" with the Nook e-reader a huge legacy, was named Monday (Dec. 19) to the new Rodale Inc. position of senior Astarita will not be starting from scratch when he begins on Jan. 3, 2012, because most Rodale brands (Men's Health, Prevention, Runner's World, etc.) are already available on mobile apps, and the company has digital partnerships with MSN/Fitbie, Starbucks Digital Network and YouTube/Berman Braun. Therefore, his job will be taking Rodale to that proverbial "next level," but he told The New York Times (Dec. 19) that there were "no current plans" to create new tablet devices. Astarita's title will make him a peer to Rodale general managers David Zinczenko (Healthy Living Group and MH editor-in-chief) and David Willey (Active Living Group and RW editor-in-chief) as the top lieutenants to corporate chairman/CEO (since Sept. 2009) Maria Rodale.
