Michael Duffy Promoted to Time Magazine Executive EditorTuesday, December 13, 2011 Michael Duffy, who has had a major impact on Time's Washington, D.C., coverage since joining the weekly as a Pentagon correspondent in 1985, was given the added title of executive editor on Monday (Dec. 12) by managing editor He remains Washington bureau chief (since 2009), and Duffy has been responsible either in full or in part for 116 Time cover stories. Stengel calls Duffy "the master of the conceptual scoop as well as the conceptual kind. He is almost always two steps ahead of everyone." Duffy joins Radhika Jones and Time International editor Jim Frederick as executive editors. They are a notch below in the hierarchy to deputy managing editor Nancy Gibbs, whom Stengel promoted from executive editor on September 7, 2011. Duffy and Gibbs are co-authors of The Preacher and the Presidents: Billy Graham in the White House (Center Street, 2007) and The Presidents' Club (Simon & Schuster), which will be published during 2012.
