Lisa Granatstein's Job At Mochila Is Literally 'Good Karma'

She covered magazines for a decade at Mediaweek, but leaving there with the October 2008 elimination of her Web editor's position proved a blessing as Granatstein quickly landed at Mochila--the New York-based provider of print and Internet/electronic content to media outlets. As editorial director (since February), Granatstein tells min that one of her responsibilities is "curating and packaging content into special sections and widgets that we distribute to our network of Web sites." Included is copy from Mochila client IDG, and proof that Lisa's work is not all bits and bytes came in an April 21 "tech news" posting on CHICAGOTRIBUNE.COM that reported the U.S. Hindu community's unhappiness with a Sony PlayStation2 game called Hanuman: Boy Warrior, as Lord Hanuman is considered a deity in the faith. Sony execs are adamant in keeping Boy Warrior, but will they reconsider if the clout of India's 800 million-plus Hindus is taken into account?

Granatstein says that her many magazine contacts helps with Mochila's new business development. Most important contact of all is Mochila president/chief revenue officer Carolyn Bekkedahl (min, April 3, 2006), who worked with Granatstein while at Weider/American Media/Gruner + Jahr and was the catalyst to her hire. Lisa "has been an invaluable member of the management team. In addition to her talents as an editor and a creative marketing/PR pro, she's really helping us open doors in the right places."
