Daniel E. Aks Named CEO, EVP of Greenspun Media Group and other people moves.... Greenspun Media Group announced Monday, July 30 that president Michael T. Carr has appointed Daniel E. Aks, most recently svp of operations for MTV Networks, as chief operating officer and executive vice president of the group. Reporting directly to Carr, Aks will be responsible for all P&L activities for GMG’s Vegas-based magazines, as well as all operational facets of the group and its online properties. Greenspun also recently appointed new editors for Las Vegas Magazine and Las Vegas Life. Aks, who holds an MBA from Harvard, had been COO for PRIMEDIA’s enthusiast media group and president of its consumer internet group prior to joining MTV. He was charged with the supervision of the division’s Home Technology and Photography brands as well as PEM’s online business. Previously, he was a partner in Booz, Allen & Hamilton’s communications, media and technology group. Sally Shankland Appointed CEO of CMPMedica U.S. CMPMedica, United Business Media’s healthcare information branch, announced the promotion of Sally Shankland to ceo of their U.S. division July 27. Having served as SVP of CMPMedica's US promotional business unit for the past six years, Shankland has worked for various UBM companies since 1988. In her most recent position, she spearheaded the launch of searchmedica.com, a medical search engine. As CEO, she replaces Vicki Masseria (who was president), who has spent 26 years with CMPMedica and its predecessors. Jim Hoos Joins NationalGeographic.com as VP, Ad Sales Hoos joins the National Geographic Society’s website from TVGuide, where he served as national sales director for TVGuide.com and TV Guide Mobile. He will be based in New York and report to Steve Giannetti, SVP and group publisher. Rolling Stone Promotes Ed Hecht to Associate Publisher Hecht, who joined the magazine last year as advertising director, was named associate publisher this week. He replaces Ray Chelstowski, who was promoted to publisher last week. Before joining Rolling Stone, Hecht had been advertising director at Cosmopolitan. MEC Retail Names Ann McGrath Client Services Director Mediaedge:cia announced the appointment of McGrath to their retail division July 26. As client services director, she will manage MEC’s existing clients Colgate-Palmolive, Cadbury Schweppes, and Pepperidge Farm. MEC Retail has also promoted Sherif Fahmy, formerly retail communications manager, to director of product development. Slack Barshinger & Partners Charges Doug Strubel with Agency Growth Strubel, a b2b marketing strategist and former marketing consultant, has joined b2b agency Slack Barshinger & Partners as a partner in charge of agency growth. He was most recently with Mobium Creative Group, where he spent seven years leading the agency’s strategic growth initiatives. He has also served as a project manager with the Richmark Group and an associate with Chicago City Capital Group. As the 14th partner in his new firm, Strubel will be the chief point of contact with prospective clients. Domino Names Advertising Director, Executive Director, Home Furnishings & Beauty Jeff Barish, formerly regional sales director for Tribune Media Net, has been hired as Domino’s advertising director. Erik Kokko, who will now oversee the home furnishings and beauty accounts at Domino, comes from Men’s Health, where he supervised fragrance and grooming. Men’s Health Names Ellen Cummings Director, Fragrance and Grooming Cummings joins the Rodale magazine from Meredith’s Traditional Home, where she served as senior account director for beauty, jewelry, and home decorating accounts.
