With episodes based in Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston and Philadelphia, Taffer pops the hood on these businesses to see how the bar itself is run, the profitability of the menu and drinks, music and staff and customer relations. This kind of prime time involvement of a trade brand with a TV entity is rare, but Questex is making the most of it. CEO Kerry Gumas says in a statement, “With the launch of ‘Bar Rescue,’ the additional exposure Jon and the Nightclub & Bar Group receive will broaden our audience to an even larger base of relationships with nightclub and bar industry professionals and integrate well with new opportunities we are creating for our clients to engage with professionals, consumers and nightlife fans.” The show coincides with a major redesign of the Nightclub.com magazine site. The show has a dedicated tab at Nightclub.com where Taffer offers short video tips for nightclub owners and the most recent episode is recapped. Questex is also leveraging the show in its events programming. The producers auditioned owners to take part in this season’s series at the last Nightclub & Bar Convention in March. Taffer is an experienced restaurateur in his own right, with 30 years of experience in the field. Questex just hired him as president of the group in January 2010.
