B2B FEATURE PERSON
Hanley Wood’s Goldstone ‘Restructured’ OutThursday, November 11, 2010 Peter Goldstone, president of Hanley Wood for the past year, is leaving the construction industry publisher as a result of a restructuring. In a Nov. 11 statement, the company said that the position of president is being eliminated altogether in an effort to “streamline our operations into one integrated media organization.” In an official statement provided by Hanley Wood to minonline and attributed to CEO Frank Anton, the company says, “Consistent with our business strategy of streamlining our operations into one integrated media organization, our board of directors has determined that it is appropriate to restructure our senior management team by eliminating the position of president. As a result, Peter Goldstone is leaving the company, effective immediately. No additional senior management changes are planned at this time. We thank Peter for his contributions to Hanley Wood and wish him the best in the future.” The company did not elaborate on how eliminating the president’s position consolidated operations. Hanley Wood publishes Builder, Big Builder and JLC magazines in a fleet of 30 properties. It also has marketing services, exhibitions and data products divisions. The company has been in a two-year process of integrating its customer-facing businesses processes. According to previous company statements, Goldstone was himself tasked with advancing this integration. He has overseen the launch of the EcoHome and Architect brands. Neither Anton or Goldstone had returned direct requests for comment in time for this report. Goldstone had been promoted to president just over a year ago after running business media. He appeared recently at the min day Digital Summit, where he recommended that publishers focus on digital platforms like marketing services and professional education that can become substantial businesses. In September, Goldstone outlined for min’s b2b the rebound his company was seeing in residential housing and remodeling markets. “There are good double-digit increases between now and the end of the year,” he said. Nevertheless, Hanley Wood has been buffeted by the ups and downs of the real estate sector. Commercial building continues to suffer, although events were returning to growth.
