min's 'Intriguing' Awards Feature a Triple Dose of 'Parade'Monday, December 5, 2011 At min's breakfast this morning (Dec. 5) at New York's Grand Hyatt, we presented our ninth Intriguing Awards to people and magazines that made a difference in 2011. Parade was part of both, with editor/editorial director (since May 2010) Maggie Murphy winning "Hottest Editor of the Year" and directing the "Hottest Reinvention of the Year." Spinoff Dash was "Hottest Launch of the Year" over the period from October 2010 through September 2011. Joining Dash as "Hottest Launch" was Athlon Sports, and founder Stephen Duggan (ex-American Profile/Maxim) was "Hottest Publisher/CEO of the Year." The Newell Turner-edited House Beautiful was also "Hottest Reinvention" (very impressive for a magazine that is 115 years old), and October 2011 launch HGTV produced the "Hottest Design Director of the Year" in Eleftherios Kardamakis. The magazine selections were made by Dr. Samir Husni, the founder/director of the Magazine Innovation Center @The University of Mississippi's Meek School of Journalism and New Media. His Guide to New Magazines is in its 26th year. min also honored the 21 Most Intriguing People in Media (24 when pairs are included). Hearst Magazines president David Carey and president/marketing and group publisher (both since June 2010) Michael Clinton are there because the company's 2011 purchase of the former Hachette Filipacchi Media (Elle, Woman's Day, etc.) becomes their 2012 challenge of fully integrating the brands. Paul Caine and Karen Kovacs are the chief architects of turning People into a $1 billion-a-year advertising-revenue weekly, and Johnson Publishing CEO (since July 2010) Desirée Rogers is leading the revitalization of the 66-year old Ebony. Here are all that were recognized this morning:
