"Gold standard," excluding the aftermath of the September 11, 2001, attacks, was the August 31, 1997, death of Princess Diana, with People's newsstand sales peaking to nearly 3 million on September 22, 1997.With the slew of celebrity media (both print and online) that did not exist 12 years ago, it is highly unlikely that the Jackson covers will outsell Diana's.
