BREAKING NEWS & VIEWS
What Was the Best Media of the Decade? forgot they were about to come to an end. Declarations surrounding the “best of” for the 00s have begun. Time magazine started this tune on a down note with the new cover story declaring this the “Decade from Hell.” At Daily Beast, they are already perusing the top 25 brains of the 00s (Hillary Clinton, Arianna Huffington and Steve Jobs included). But AdWeek is courting the media tribes with its voting for “Best of the 2000s” in 33 categories. Among the 13 short-listed for Magazine of the Decade, The Economist, Everyday with Rachael Ray, O The Oprah Magazine, Real Simple and The Week are included. Write-ins are allowed. The vote is occurring in real time, and as of Monday afternoon Wired leads convincingly with 36% of the vote and The New Yorker with 13%. On the print advertising front, campaigns from American Express (“My Life, My Card”), Mini (“Inserts”) and the NBA (“There can only be one”) were jockeying for the lead. AdWeek has included images of the print campaign finalists. In the Media Company of the Decade category, it looks as if a total rout is in the making, with Google grabbing 72% of the early voting. Interestingly, Google founders Sergey Brin and Larry Page are earning only 20% of the vote for Media Executive of the Decade, with Steve Jobs glomming 52% of the vote thus far. AdWeek says it will announce its editors’ picks for each of these categories in a December issue. If you have breaking news to share please contact Steve Smith at ssmith@accessintel.com COMMENTS
