Wenner Joins Vanity Fair's 'New Establishment' That was then. Now, RS' July 8 reporting by Michael Hastings of the insubordinations by Gen. Stanley McChrystal and his staff towards President Obama--which led to Obama firing McChrystal and reassigning Gen. David Petraeus as U.S. military commander in Afghanistan--led to Wenner being ranked 60th among the 100 members of Vanity Fair's 2010 "New Establishment" in the just-released October issue. VF cites the Hastings exposé as the latest example of RS "churning out a string of high-caliber stories that have made the magazine constantly engaging." "New Establishment" has been a VF staple since 1995, with media, digital, and Hollywood moguls dominating. Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, who is very "new," is tops, and the not-so-new Rupert Murdoch ranks fourth after Apple's Steve Jobs and Google's Sergey Brin/Larry Page/Eric Schmidt. None of this summer's anointed magazine co. presidents--Hearst Corporation's David Carey, Time Inc.'s Jack Griffin, Meredith National Media Group's Tom Harty and VF parent Condé Nast's Bob Sauerberg--is on the list, but Lady Gaga ranks 23rd. She, ironically, was on the same July 8 RS cover that earned Wenner his VF "stripes." If you have breaking news to share please contact Steve Smith at ssmith@accessintel.com COMMENTS
