UBM TechWeb Uses New Apps to Guide Event Attendees

Friday, February 10, 2012

Mobile media and industry events appear to be made for each other, but most b2b publishers have only been experimenting with apps and mobile sites that help guide their conference attendees. UBM TechWeb is aiming to make mobile apps a standard part of their event experience in a new deal with mobile solutions provider DoubleDutch. Beginning with the Feb. 13-16 Cloud Connect Santa Clara conference, the companies will provide downloadable apps with a broad range of schedule management features. The apps include a full agenda of the event that is customizable to feature the latest meetings and the user’s favorites. The app will also access the attendee’s own full profile and bio and connect with others. Vector-based maps allow attendees to navigate the show. Private messaging allows peer-to-peer communications. The users can even present hosted video from within the app.

The apps also gamify the event experience with status badges the user can earn for performing tasks and check-ins. There is also a people matching function that can match people of related interests also attending.

Great news! It sound interesting that we can share updates on events through mobiles. More interesting fact is that, we can even manage an entire event through by creating mobile websites for events. Steve, you have rightly pointed out that peer-to-peer connectivity will become easy with mobile apps which guide event attendees. I agree with you that the task of booking tickets, finding the venue, and mobile payment has become quite easy today. Aren't they?
