September traffic was mixed after a strong summer for many branded magazine sites. As Americans got back from summer breaks, many eyeballs turned to planning the next respite. At TravelandLeisure.com, for instance (+129.14% page views, +55.16% unique visitors, September versus August 2011), people were coming for the travel features that the site has been emphasizing lately. Such timely pieces as America’s Most Beautiful Campuses (September T+L) and World’s Most Visited Tourist Attractions (October) drew eyeballs.
Of course nothing in magazine media succeeds like sweepstakes. And so LuckyMag.com’s (+10.07% PVs, +68.85% UVs) was anything but sheer luck. Its Lucky Sweep promotion pushed the audience over 1 million for the month, the second highest the site has seen.
