BREAKING NEWS & VIEWS
Time.com Relaunches VideoWednesday, August 19, 2009 It is tough for a print newsweekly to stay relevant in a real-time multimedia world, and so Time.com is trying to showcase its video properties in a relaunch of its media player page and streaming media assets. The library of shows is pushing forward the video franchises Time.com has been developing, including “10 Questions,” “Ze Frank,” “Acoustic News” and “Family Tech.” The section takes a YouTube sorting approach, applying filters for most viewed clips today, this week and last week. The videos themselves are larger and available in HD versions. And the search function is improved, with more related results and sorting by topic. The site also curates videos into featured topics. History buffs get a treat this week with “March of Time” newsreels surfaced for special attention. American Express currently sponsors this area of the Time site. The novel banner ad in the section actually reiterates the Time library itself. The ad touts “The Five Most Popular Videos of all TIME” from the news brand’s archive.
