Time Puts an Historic 'X' on Osama bin LadenMonday, May 2, 2011 On Monday (May 2), Time magazine announced that its special issue on the killing of Osama bin Laden will be marked with a bloody red "X." The marking will be the fourth in Time's 88-year history. This follows a tradition begun by founder (1923) Henry Luce with Adolf Hitler (May 7, 1945), and continued by 2001-2006 managing editor Jim Kelly with the capture of Saddam Hussein (April 21, 2003) and the killing of bin Laden lieutenant Abu Musab al-Zarqawi (June 21, 2006).Now, Kelly successor (since June 2006) Rick Stengel is doing the same with bin Laden. May 20 issue out on Thursday (May 5) is a special after the May 16 release was advanced to today (May 2) because of the royal wedding. News from Time updates our story from this morning.
