Runner’s World Claims Circ VictoryFriday, July 17, 2009 With a firm tailwind coming from a cross-platform hit Sarah Palin feature, Rodale’s Runner’s World says it has increased circulation 5% in the first half of 2009. For the industry overall issue sales at retail plummeted as a result of the economic downturn, but Rodale says even its newsstand sales for Runner’s World ticked up in the last six months.Rodale credits the RunnersWorld.com Web site for much of this success, as the site has become a key source for print sales with online order for print subs up 89% over the first half of 2008. “Online is now responsible for driving a huge percentage of subscriptions sales,” says Chris Lambiase, Runner’s World Media Group VP. The recent exclusive feature on Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin helped the Web site break traffic records, with 5.49 million page views and 526,748 unique visitors during the week of June 30-July 5. The photo gallery of Palin alone was responsible for 1.12 million page views. If you have breaking news to share please contact Steve Smith at ssmith@accessintel.com
