BREAKING NEWS & VIEWS
Ronan Gardiner Promoted to Men's Health PublisherFriday, July 8, 2011 Ronan Gardiner, who as Men's Health advertising director and associate publisher was the top lieutenant to publisher Jack Essig for the past 6½ years, was elevated to publisher on July 7--one day after Essig left MH and parent Rodale Inc. to join Hearst Magazines as senior VP/publishing director/chief revenue officer of Esquire and the newly formed Men's Enthusiast Group (Esquire, Popular Mechanics, Car and Driver, Road & Track).Announcement by Rodale executive VP/group publisher Mary Murcko suggests that the business side of MH will stay the course. It also negates any possibility of Gardiner joining Essig at Hearst. The British-born Gardiner is credited in partnering with Essig in building MH's business success in print, digital and mobile. He also was instrumental in getting Gatorade to be the presenting sponsor of the MH Urbanathlon, which will be held this fall. As with Essig, Gardiner has completed the Urbanathlon each time since its 2006 inception and he is also a triathlete. In leaving Rodale, Essig also vacated the Women's Health publisher's job, which he had held since March 2009. Murcko said that the position will again become "dedicated," with the hire to come.
