People Launching 'Celeb News' Android AppFriday, August 27, 2010 People is launching this afternoon (Aug. 27) its Celeb News app for the Android OS, which features breaking news, a top 5 most-read stories listing, plenty of celeb photos—naturally—and access to People.com's celebrity database. The launch sponsor of the app, which costs $1.99, is COVERGIRL.The People Celeb News app will also feature two versions of a home-screen widget exclusive to the Android platform. Through the widget, users will be able to view People headlines on their home screen without opening the app. Once the user taps the story to read more, the app will open. The iPhone version of Celeb News, which launched in May 2009, does not offer home-screen widgets, according to a Time Inc. spokesperson. People has been aggressive of late about mobilizing its brand; earlier this week it launched on Foursquare. If you have breaking news to share please contact Steve Smith at ssmith@accessintel.com
