Parenting.com Convenes 'Mom Congress' This joint effort between Georgetown and Parenting Group will lead toward a 2010 MCEL live event in Washington, D.C. The online Mom Congress will help cultivate and identify advocates around the country to contribute to the event. Georgetown is developing special continuing education programs around the MCEL initiative and will offer 10 scholarships for their own continuing education program. Bonnier’s Parenting Group publishes the Parenting and Babytalk brands; the Mom Congress leverages and focuses the existing Parenting community toward a common cause. It demonstrates how magazine brands can become the facilitator of a community, a kind of broker among worlds that a major media company can access more readily than a spontaneous, stand-alone online community. In this model, the media provider leverages community to become a “content host,” rather than a simple content provider.
