'OK!' and 'The Week' Had the Best Five-Year Ad Results in min's Top 5 Tuesday, February 8, 2011 Greer Jonas
It is no surprise, as we examine min's weekly and biweekly 2006-2010 ad-page chart, that business improved in 2010 compared with the downtrodden 2009.
The pleasant surprise is that OK! and The Week were the only weeklies that had consistent ad-page growth over the five years.
OK!, which launched in the U.S. in 2005, had a cumulative 2010-versus-2006 ad-age differential of +152.44%. “In its five years in the US market, OK! magazine has leveraged its unique A-list lifestyle editorial and its access to celebrities to deliver custom programs for marketing partners," min is told.
"The key to sustained growth has been solidifying our core entertainment business and growing ad categories such as beauty, fashion, food, and packaged goods. Looking towards a strong 2011, we take a 360-degree approach to our programs, and our digital and events platforms will continue to evolve as we roll out new initiatives and refine existing editorial franchises.”
The Week, which will celebrate its 10th anniversary in the U.S. in April 2011, was +35.26% over the same period. Publisher Jessica Sibley tells min that the "focus has been on the reader first by creating an editorial product that engages consumers. This in turn has led to unparalleled value delivered to advertisers and resulted in a growing roster of blue-chip companies signing on."
"Over the last five years, we’ve registered ad-page increases with considerable market-share growth in the financial, technology, auto and energy categories. We are proud that we have created a product that has consistently captured the attention of readers and advertisers alike."
Below are the five weeklies from our five-year ad page report that had the highest percentage gains in 2010 versus 2009, with OK! and The Week in yellow. Also see our top ten performance chart of monthlies over 2006-2010.
