McGraw-Hill Education Launches Custom Publishing for TeachersMonday, October 11, 2010 McGraw-Hill Education will let higher education instructors build their own textbooks in a new McGraw-Hill Create product that leverages e-book technology and online resources. Teachers will be able to assemble content of their choosing for courses from the publisher’s vast online repository of material to create either e-books or printed texts. This streamlines an academic custom publishing model that used to take weeks to fulfill, the company says. Create uses a search engine to help professors find specific content pieces from a database of 4,000 textbooks, 5,500 articles,11,000 other readings from literature, philosophy and humanities and 25,000 business case studies. The Create product will also connect to teachers through Blackboard, Inc.’s classroom tool so that the content can be seamlessly integrated with classroom work. When professors finish assembling content for a Create book, the system gives the teacher a review draft in digital form within the hour. Once the professor approves the draft and Create produces final copies for sale to students in McGraw-Hill’s e-bookstore or directly from campus bookstores in hard-copy format.
