John Q. Griffin Leaves Time Inc.Tuesday, May 10, 2011 John Q. Griffin has ended his nearly six-month stint as president of Time Inc.'s News Group (comprised of Fortune, Money, Time and Life.com). Announcement was made today (May 11) by corporate chief financial officer Howard Averill, one of the three executives running the company since the Feb. 17 departure of Time Inc. president Jack Griffin after just five months. (The two Griffins are not related.)In a statement, Averill said that John Griffin's departure was "by mutual agreement." With the decision in February by Randall Rothenberg to end his two months as Time Inc. chief digital officer to return to the Interactive Advertising Bureau presidency, both of Jack Griffin's major outside hires have joined him in leaving the company. John Griffin is the past president (2001-2010) of National Geographic Society Publishing. An effect of John Griffin's departure is the promotion of Time publisher (since December 2010) Kim Kelleher to worldwide publisher. She, Fortune publisher Jed Hartman and Money publisher Brendan Ripp now report to Averill, who says that the company is conducting a search for Griffin's replacement.
