No New York benefit today, as has been the case since St. Patrick’s Day 2004, when the Kelly Gang celebrated the life of ex-The Atlantic/National Journal/New Republic editor-in-chief Michael Kelly, who was killed in a Humvee accident during the early stages of the Iraq War in April 2003.

Over the ensuing five years, thousands of dollars were raised for such charities as The Wounded Warriors Project and Hunter’s Hope, and although the Michael’s celebration takes a pause to allow sponsors to regroup in this tough economy, the Gang—which includes New York Post Media Ink columnist Keith Kelly, ex-Time managing editor Jim Kelly, ex-YM and Ellegirl editor-in-chief Christina Kelly, New York police commissioner Ray Kelly, American Express Publishing president Ed Kelly, and his sister, House Beautiful VP/publisher Kate Kelly Smith—has designated Tuesday’s Children and Catholic Relief Services as the 2010 beneficiaries. The Gang also marched in New York's St. Patrick's Day parade, where Ray Kelly (wearing the sash) was grand marshal,  Ed Kelly (with the green tie) is to the left. Kate Kelly Smith is next to the commissioner and Jim Kelly (with the dark glasses) is behind him. Christina Kelly (wearing the dark green jacket) and Keith Kelly (holding the benner) are to the right. They marked the occasion by making a $1,000 donation to the aforementioned Tuesday's Children, which sends children who lost loved ones in the September 11, 2001, attacks to summer camp in Northern Ireland.
