BREAKING NEWS & VIEWS
Internet.com Sold for $18 millionMonday, August 10, 2009 One of the most recognized addresses on the Internet—Internet.com, of course—has been sold by parent company WebMediaBrands to direct marketing services firm QuinStreet in a cash deal of $18 million. This marks the exit from tech publishing of Alan Meckler, CEO of WebMediaBrands and a veteran of the IT business information space. Meckler and co. will continue to operate WMB's other niche b2b properties, including the wildly popular Mediabistro, Graphics.com and numerous job boards and online training programs. “We believe that this transaction will be beneficial to WebMediaBrands and its stockholders as it will significantly improve our balance sheet and at the same time allow us to focus on growing b2b communities in the non-tech space,” Meckler said in a statement. The company is announcing its Q2 2009 financial results tomorrow. Meckler has been in the IT publishing space online since 1994 when he created the MecklerWeb complement to a series of b2b trade pubs that included CDrom World and Internet World. After selling print assets to Penton Media in 1998, the digital properties spun off into Internet.com. If you have breaking news to share please contact Steve Smith at ssmith@accessintel.com
