Hudson News Founder Robert B. Cohen DiesFriday, February 3, 2012 The founder of one of the powerhouses in magazine distribution Hudson News, Robert B. Cohen dies in Florida at the age of 86. As reported by Associated Press this morning, Cohen took over his father’s newspaper distribution business Hudson County News Co. in 1947. But in the past few decades Cohen is best known for starting the airport magazine chain Hudson News in 1987. Taking over a failed newsstand in Newark airport, he saw the opportunity to reform the distribution methods used on travelers by radically expanding the choice of titles in airports and opening up the experience of shopping for them. Creating walls of titles in well-lit environments, he is credited with transforming the business of selling content to travelers by making the titles more accessible and encouraging browsing. The first Hudson News opened in La Guardia airport. If you have breaking news to share please contact Steve Smith at ssmith@accessintel.com
