Financial Times Drills New Subscription NicheTuesday, September 7, 2010 Financial Times launches this week schemeXpert.com, a subscription-based site aimed at pension managers in the U.K. SchemeXpert.com will produce original content on the business of pensions from an in-house editorial team as well as aggregate the best news from around the Web. The site is also a service in that it provides a secure virtual repository for documents and articles that can be shared privately within a company. General users can access one article a month free without registration, while registered users get five free articles a month. Paid subscribers can access customization features that allow a company or user to personalize the content and communications features of the site. The paid tier also accesses the tools for sharing documents and creating enhanced views of stored materials. Financial Times did not disclose the cost of paid access, nor does the site reveal up front the price. Potential subscribers can submit forms on site to be contacted by the site’s sales team for more detailed pricing information. According to paidContent UK, this is the seventh paid niche site that FT has launched recently or is planning for later this year, including Money Media, MandateWire and China Confidential. The FT Group has reduced its reliance on advertising income from 74% of revenue in 2000 to 45% in 2009. If you have breaking news to share please contact Steve Smith at ssmith@accessintel.com
