EW.com Passes 1 Billion Annual Page View Mark In OctoberThursday, November 10, 2011 Reflecting a very strong year for its digital media growth across platforms, Entertainment Weekly’s EW.com says that it surpassed the cumulative 1 billion page view mark for 2011 well ahead of last year’s pace. As of October’s internal Omniture reports, EW.com had accumulated 1.08 billion page views, a milestone it didn’t pass until December in 2010. A key driver of increased traffic in 2011 has been extensive TV coverage. The site leveraged the new season of programming on the living room screen by complementing much of that new content with second screen commentary and added features. Television-related content at EW.com saw 66% year-over-year page view growth over last year. The company has been experimenting with a beta version of a second screen experience it calls “viEWwer” that it hopes will continue this growth into 2012. “We’ve refocused and re-energized our digital presence with a range of strategic new editorial efforts, new experiences, and a new social media strategy,” says Bill Gannon, managing editor, EW.com. The social outreach has been especially effective with referrals from these networks increasing 330% since the start of 2011. EW has 170,168 Facebook fans and 1.76 million Twitter followers. Mobile increasingly has become part of the EW picture. The EW mobile site gets special juice from news updates as well as the photo galleries and the TV recaps. The mobile site breaks records each month, with 2.7 million uniques in October reading 11.9 million pages. The tablet presence is covered by both a site that is friendly to the iPad browser as well as the EW Must-List app of ten must see entertainment events. The app has been downloaded 300,000 times, with page views from the app increasing 35% this year. If you have breaking news to share please contact min’s editors.
