Domino Brand Returns For Special Issues

Wednesday, February 8, 2012

Among the many casualties of the Great Recession in both the U.S. economy and the magazine industry in the last few years, Domino magazine has been among the most missed. In fact in our own May 2010 poll at minonline, Domino was declared the “most missed” of defunct books, right in front of Spy and Gourmet.

Fans of the magazine, which folded in 2009, can rejoice over seeing the brand on newsstands, at least occasionally, starting in April. Condé Nast announced this week that a special Domino Quick Fixes issue will be at retail between April 17 and July 16. The $10.99 special edition will feature DYI projects and “quick spruce-ups of dowdy furniture” the company says in its release. The spring issue will be followed by a fall number.

Domino joins Gourmet as a canceled Condé Nast project that has been revived in another form. Gourmet Live on iPad keeps that beloved brand appearing with weekly updates.

Domino has left its social media presence dormant since 2009, when it posted to the brand’s Facebook page, “Dear readers, it is with very heavy hearts that we say farewell.” That had been the last post to the site, still with 15,668 fans, until yesterday (Feb. 7). “Loyal Domino Fans! We are pleased to announce Domino Quick Fixes… .” The company has also directed fans to its Twitter handle @dominomag where more than 2500 people are already following.
