BREAKING NEWS & VIEWS
Disney Launches FamilyFun KidsWednesday, November 9, 2011 Disney Publishing Worldwide, publisher of FamilyFun, is now taking more direct aim at the children’s market with the launch this week of FamilyFun Kids. The bi-monthly title uses recipes, crafts, games, brainteasers and puzzles to build skills in a readership aged 6 to 12. The $4.99/issue magazine will include new content as well as select material from FamilyFun’s archive spanning 20 years. The title complements the traditional FamilyFun, which is aimed at parents looking for ideas to entertain and stimulate their children. Disney says that the new book focuses tightly on increasing critical thinking in children. Readers are encouraged to make things and engage in tasks independently of others. “There is no magazine out there doing this, and we know parents really crave this kind of creative support for their kids,” states Ann Hallock, editorial director. According to Publishers Information Bureau data for the first three quarters of 2011, FamilyFun was down 12.6% in pages from the year-ago period.
