CQ Press to Launch ‘First Street’ Government Data ServiceFriday, December 3, 2010 Calling it a tool for "coalition-building," CQ Press announced the January 2011 launch of "First Street," an information service for lobbyists, law firms, associations and any other group working to effect change in Congress. "First Street" will pull together congressional, lobbying and government data with other political intelligence. The database will include material going back as far as 1993, including federal staff directories, lobbyist registrations, Federal Election Commission and election data. The staff directories can get quite detailed, including the work histories of government employees and their past work in Congress, for agencies and for lobbyists. Along with the raw data, a First Street Coalition Builder will create maps that show connections among staff so the user can understand the relationships and legislative connections. Users will be able to understand the organizations behind lobbying efforts and track their activity and related clients. Detailed information on legislation before Congress goes back to 1993. There will also be a set of tools for saving data and building contact lists. The First Street product is being overseen by director of special markets Jasper Simons, online business development manager Stephen Stesney (formerly of Kiplinger Washington Editors) and manager of online product development Mary Grace Palumbo. CQ Press is a division of SAGE. CQ has been developing more online services and databases in recent years around legal and government affairs.
