Crain Shutters RCRWireless, Lays Off 20

After 28 years covering all aspects of the wireless industry, RCRWireless will “suspend publication,” Crain Communications confirmed to minonline late Tuesday afternoon. “I think more than anything they had been hit hard by the financial meltdown,” says Colleen Robar, director of corporate communications at Crain. The closure took effect at noon on Tuesday and involved both the biweekly print publication and the RCRWireless.com site. Twenty staff members were laid off as a result of the decision. The publication’s main office is in Golden, Colo.

RCRWireless had 50,000 subscribers to the biweekly publication. According to year-end counts from IMS, ad pages had declined -19.20% in 2008. The publication launched in 1981.
