Magazine Automotive Ad Revenues Dropped By $400 Million-Plus in 2008 Still, automotive has been sickly for years, but pharmaceuticals, toiletries/cosmetics, and fashion/apparel had picked up the slack—until 2008, and the short-term outlook for 2009 looks poor. Beyond the economy, it is expected that President-Elect Obama will have a more regulatory Food and Drug Administration less likely to approve new products. That is not a good sign for a category made major in the mid-1990s by the FDA's allowing consumer advertising for prescription drugs. (Categorical chart will be in the Jan. 19 min.)
