Coiffed and well-dressed for New York Fashion Week, Style.com launched a dedicated iPhone/iTouch application in the Apple App Store last week. Dressed in voguish black (with white lettering), the free app will bring the latest images and news from the runways as well as specific coverage of the various designer rollouts. Until September 5, however, users get a full index of designers and their recent runways shots. Style.com for iPhone illustrates the inherent strengths of a a dedicated app over a mobile Web site. Each designer’s index fills the screen with a grid of oversized thumbnail images the user can dril into or simply run as a slide show. Each full-screen image flips to reveal a lengthy review.

The app also includes a Style. com blog as well as a full catalog of designer-specific videos from the main site’s deep trove.

The iPhone has already attracted high fashion statements from other publishers and brands. Chanel was among the first applications in the store from a major brand. As we covered recently in min, PMc Magazine will be a 99-cent download from the App store, supported by advertising. While the Style.com app is free, there is no sign yet of ad units. Spotlight Mobile, a Portland, Oregon mobile developer, partnered with Style.com to create the application.

The iPhone seems to be rolling over just about everyone. In a surprising switch of allegiances this week, Thaddeus Company’s “Smartphone & Pocket PC Magazine” announced it is suspending print publication with the current issue and will launch iPhone Life in 2009.
