Jim Berrien is stepping down from running day-to-day operations as president and publisher of Forbes Magazine Group. He will assume the position of chairman of Forbes magazine, effective January 2009. Some of his more notable achievements include helming the launches of ForbesLife Executive Woman and ForbesLife MountainTime. He was also a min's Sales Executive of the Year award winner in 2005.

Berrien made headlines in the spring of 2007 due to reported "tensions" between him and venture capitalists Elevation Partners, which bought a 40% stake in the company. But the Forbes family has always been publicly supportive of Berrien. "Jim’s tenure has been impressive, and his leadership and creative initiatives have secured the No. 1 position for Forbes in its competitive business category for the past six years," said Steve Forbes in a statement released today.

On Friday (August 8) Berrien told min, "The business is not as much fun as it was 20 years ago. I'm blessed to be in good health, and to be able to plan my leaving at the end of the year."
