Confusion surrounds the recent news that 8020 Publishing’s reader-generated travel mag Everywhere is “suspending production”. Could be they are getting ready to shut their doors, but according to an optimistic Mitch Fox (8020’s president and former Conde Nastman), the magazine’s hiatus is just that. “We are simply skipping the next print issue and will resume our regular production schedule in eight weeks. And the site will be back and better than ever with a vertical focus in five to six weeks.”

It's admittedly not a good sign when staffers are let go (three, including the EIC), but Fox explains that as well: “Our original vision for the magazine and site have changed (first launched in Nov. 2007) and we are using this time to restructure everything, including the staff. In fact, we are starting the hiring process right now.”

Editor Todd Lappin noted on the site’s blog that, “Suspending publication of Everywhere will enable 8020 Publishing to focus on improving the community platform behind JPG Magazine, 8020's other title. That, in turn, will benefit all the future titles 8020 plans to produce.”

EW’s mags usually sell about 30,000 copies each and the site has about 160,00 unique visitors per month.

Sounds like 8020 is not only going to put the focus where the money is (the web), but they are also going to be leaning harder on their more successsful publication, JPG.
