After 54 years, the outdoors magazine Hunting & Fishing News is shutting down production. Popular in the Pacific Northwest, the mag was published 24 times annually and had seven regional editions.

Tom Erikson, Outdoor Empire Publishing's publisher of three years told minonline, "What drove the closing was the indutry consolidation and, of course, the economy. And a lot of advertising has started going over to cable networks."

Outdoor Empire Publishing will continue the association memberships that allow it to publish three tradeshow product guides (for SHOT, ICAST, and NRA). It will also seek to sell those publications, the Fishing & Hunting News brand, Web site, and related assets.

"Our subscriptions and readership numbers were fine; this is just the economy we are in, " said Erikson.

The already distributed August 7 issue will be the last.
