On September 1, Texas Monthly editor-in-chief (since July 2000) Evan Smith will add the presidency being bequeathed by 1973 founder Mike Levy. Quite a 35-year run for Dallas native Levy, who launched the Austin-based TM with a $100,000 loan from his parents. He sold TM to Emmis Communications for $37 million in 1998, and stayed on for another decade. First National Magazine Award for TM came in 1974; there have been a slew since.
