PC World Editor-in-Chief to Step Down
Monday, May 12, 2008

PC World editor-in-chief Harry McCracken will be leaving his post June 2 to start his own venture, McCracken wrote in his blog today. He will continue to play a role at PC World as contributing editor. "PC World has lots of ambitious things in the works. Even though I won't be on staff, I'm looking forward to seeing them become reality in the coming months," he wrote.

McCracken told Minonline today, "PC World is strong and will continue to be great without me. I loved my time here, but I don't get to spend as much time with the products, which is what I really want to do." While details of his new venture are still largely undisclosed, McCracken confirmed it will be a product-based technology website.

McCracken has survived a largely tumultuous 14-year career at PC World, but he has also won many accolades, such as the 2008 Timothy White Neal Award. He was also named to Min Magazine's 2007 Most Intriguing List.

It's been a year almost to the day since McCracken resolved his issues with then-CEO Colin Crawford, reversed his resignation and stayed on as EIC. "I could happily do this job forever, new challenges are good, too, " he wrote in his blog.

Please note a correction to this story: This morning, Minonline reported that McCracken has had a 14-year career that included many accolades as well a firing. McCracken was not fired from PC World. He resigned in May of last year and then returned to resume his duties as editor-in-chief once issues were resolved.

Thanks for the report on my news, but a major correction: I was never fired from PC World. And I'm not sure why you think I was. Can you please correct?
