On April 2nd min told you about Mets legend Lenny Dykstra's new publishing venture, Players Club magazine. The mag's goal was to be a financial and lifestyle guide by professional athletes, for professional athletes in their later, post-glory days. But now a month after mag's launch, Dykstra is suing the custom publisher Doubledown Media for control over the second issue. Dykstra filed suit against Doubledown Media's Randall Lane for breach of contract but Doubledown filed a counterclaim alleging Dykstra owes them more than a half million dollars.

According to Doubledown, Dykstra was demanding bigger, more expensive additions to the magazine without the means to pay for them. Dykstra insisted the magazine launch as a monthly, publish in a much larger physical size, that Doubledown create a Spanish-language edition and even hire an extra design consultant. When their relationship went south, American Express Publishing stepped in to take over as publisher.

Doubledown also strongly advised against the $400k launch party at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel, but Dystra went ahead with it anyway. Min attended the event and we have to say, it was a highly glossy party, complete with gormet food prepared by Chef Marco Canora and a Grammy-winning hip-hop violinist, not to mention the pro athlete and celebrity guests.

In all, Doubledown claims Dykstra owes the company $587,210.
