National Geographic was the big winner at the 43rd annual National Magazine Awards at the Jazz at Lincoln Center last night. The 110-year-old publication won the General Excellence award in the 2 million plus category for the second year in a row. Editor-in-chief Chris Johns could not recall the last time he felt so proud, "I am just so lucky to work with the people that I work with and to work for a publication that is still committed to excellence."

National Geographic also picked up the Ellie (the Elephant, Calder's symbol for reporting) for best photojournalism and best reporting for China's Instant Cities, by Peter Hessler. The reporting award was presented to Chris Johns by CNN's Anderson Cooper.   See the other winners.
