The Deal Adds Michael Crosby as VP of Sales
Michael Crosby, most recently with Thomson Financial, has been named vice president, sales for The Deal, LLC, which runs TheDeal.com, The Daily Deal, The Deal, and other print and digital business publications aimed at corporate and financial dealmakers. Crosby will be responsible for the company’s subscription-based sales, reporting directly to CEO and publisher Robert M. Clark.

Prior to his two years as regional managing director for Thomson’s financial services solutions for hedge funds and buyside groups, Crosby spent five years as VP of global sales and business development at CBS Marketwatch. He has also worked outside of publishing at AT&T and Atlas Securities, and launched the Atlantic Canada World Trade Center, a Halifax, Nova Scotia consulting firm.

Susanna Homan Named Executive Editor of Niche’s New Michigan Avenue
Niche Media, publisher of Gotham, Hamptons, Boston Commons, Vegas, and other such city-specific luxury magazines, has hired on Susanna Homan, a Chicago Sun-Times columnist, to act as executive editor for Michigan Avenue, a new project focused on Chicago. The 70,000-circulation magazine will be published bi-monthly, targeting readers with household incomes of at least $200,000.

Homan has spent the past seven years writing the “Susanna’s Night Out” column for the Chicago Sun-Times, as well as producing the paper’s weekly feature “Shopping With Susanna.” She will continue to contribute both pieces. Homan has also served as vice president and director of corporate communications at Cramer-Krasselt, a large Chicago based advertising agency. She has also previously served as a weekend talk radio host for WCKG-FM, and contributes to the FOX and NBC Chicago affiliates.

Michigan Avenue will be delivered to high-end retailers, hotels, airports, and homes, as well as sold on newsstands. Niche, a subsidiary of Greenspun Media Group, is set to launch the magazine on September 15, 2008.

New Hire, Promotion at National Geographic Adventure
National Geographic Adventure, the National Geographic Society’s outdoor lifestyle magazine, has added Jeff Nicholson, previously with Condé Nast’s Golf Digest, as an account manager. Nicholson will reportedly target growth categories such as liquor, pharmaceuticals, fashion, and luxury. In addition to Golf Digest, he has held ad sales positions at Car and Driver, Road & Track and various action sports titles at Time4Media.

In addition, NGA has promoted Bryan Kinkade to director, travel and tourism, up from the title of travel manager. The title change is merely a recognition of the role Kinkade has assumed working with travel advertisers for the magazine, according to the folks at NGA.

The Rosen Group Lifts Zachary Hooper to Senior VP
Zachary Hastings Hooper is to assume the title of senior vice president at The Rosen Group, a New York-based PR firm that represents many magazine brands. Hooper has worked with the firm since 2000, most recently as vice president. He relocated to Washington, DC to open and manage an office in Dupont Circle in 2005, and currently oversees a number of accounts, including TransUnion’s TruCredit.com, the John Templeton Foundation, The Magazine Group, Atlantic Media, and Bond & Bowery.

Hooper, a Springfield, MA native and Bowdoin College graduate, ran a boutique agency for the arts prior to joining TRG. He began his career in circulation and international marketing at Ziff Davis.
