David Nussbaum Replaces David Steward as CEO of F+W Publications

A little over a year after ending his tenure as CEO of Penton Media in the wake of the Penton/Prism merger that put John French at the helm of the company, David Nussbaum has re-emerged as a magazine media CEO—this time in the niche/consumer space as chairman and CEO of F+W Publications (Print, I.D., HOW, and over 50 other books). Nussbaum replaces David Steward in both of those capacities. His appointment is effective immediately.

After a brief hiatus from the B2B media business following his departure from Penton, Nussbaum joined forces again with private equity shop ABRY Partners (Cygnus, F+W, formerly Penton) in March to search for new B2B media acquisitions with $100 million in capital. The company, Sundance Business Media, will be put on the back burner while Nussbaum is at F+W.

Nussbaum’s attraction to the F+W job didn’t stem merely from his previous positive interactions with ABRY (both parties did well on the sale of Penton). In late November 2007, David Blansfield took over as president of F+W’s magazine division, filling a vacancy that had been left by Colin Ungaro, who left in late October. Blansfield had worked for Nussbaum at Penton where he was SVP of the design engineering group (Machine Design) while Nussbaum was CEO.  At F+W, they will be reunited, again both in top executive roles.

In early December, min’s b2b wondered which top B2B exec would be the next to move to the consumer side. Nussbaum being that next mover/shaker should not surprise us: Three of the biggest names to move from B2B to consumer/niche have come from Penton—Nussbaum, Blansfield, and Eric Shanfelt, who had been running e-media at Penton, and is now doing the same at Aspire.

More on this story in this coming week’s min’s b2b.

What happened to the "Steward Speaks" article I saw posted earlier today? It was a follow up to the article about David Nussbaum's appointment as F+W CEO. I'd like to read it but can no longer locate it. Anybody know what the article said or why the link would have been removed? Thanks
