Burrill & Company, a life sciences media, venture capital, and merchant bank company, has reacquired the Burrill Life Sciences Media Group from Nielsen Business Media, which was created in a joint venture last January. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Originally called Global Media Group Burrill Life Sciences Media, LLC, Nielsen, then VNU Business Media, held a controlling share in the group. The group published several mags, including The Journal of Life Sciences and The Personalized Medicine Report, and produced ten conferences.

Zach Dicker, long-time business associate of the late VNU CEO Bob Krakoff, was VP and group publisher for Nielsen Business Media for the project. It was Krakoff who first re-organized Nielsen into market-focused groups of publications and tradeshows, which made the creation of the Burill JV possible. Krakoff passed away, on March 22, 2007 (see our tribute to him here and more from him and Nielsen here).

The deal comes at a time when health publications as a whole are challenged. Relinquishing the group may be part of a strategy by Nielsen to divest itself from the challenged healthcare market.

Advanstar's plan to adapt to the changing market was announced this week.
