According to an announcement today by Time, Inc., Paul Caine, who had been helmer of the PEOPLE group (which includes PEOPLE and its sister pubs) will now be president of the newly formed Time, Inc. entertainment group, which will also include Entertainment Weekly and its ancillaries. Dave Morris (previously a candidate to be a Time-lifer), who had been publisher of EW in two stints (2000-2003, 2005-2007), with a stint as publisher of SI in between, will be leaving the company after 21-years of service. APs Dan Spaeth and Peggy Mansfield and GM Nancy Ryan will be picking up the slack in the absence of a new publisher. A new publisher will be announced in the coming weeks.

Steve Cohn: Basically, my guess is that Morris realized that Paul wanted his own people (lower-case "p") and resigned.  That's very normal in situations like this, quite frankly.

From Dave Morris to minonline, via email: "I had a great 21 years at Time Inc. and no regrets. I look forward to what is next."
